Exciting Changes to Wednesday Night League

Posted on by admin in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Exciting Changes to Wednesday Night League

In recent years participation in this league has declined, and BCC Board Members are trying new things in hopes of increasing appeal to curlers

The format for Wednesday night league is changing – it is no longer an open league.  Instead there will be two separate leagues playing concurrently:
8 Team Men’s League
&
8 Team Ladies League

The first 8 teams of each gender to register will be taken, with last year’s Wednesday teams and patron members to be given priority.  More teams of one gender will be accepted should the opposite gender not utilize all their spaces.

This league plays at an ideal time, with games beginning at 6:00pm on Wednesday nights.  There are no late draws.

Contact the league coordinator:  Derek Papegnies    derekpap@gmail.com or cell (204) 720-4669 to enter a team.  You can also register online at http://www.brandoncurlingclub.com/leagues/registration-form/

Home Hardware Canada Cup – Volunteer Opportunities!

Posted on by admin in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Home Hardware Canada Cup – Volunteer Opportunities!

We are extremely excited to be hosting this event in Brandon and hope this will be a catalyst for more interest in curling for our clubs.  Please see the Media Release below notice regarding volunteer opportunities for the Canada Cup coming this fall!  The link is at the bottom of the media release where people can get their information put in for volunteering.  There will be 4 pages in total to fill in and review.

Please note that the following on Page 3 of the sign up (This fee will be collected when you register online. At the same time you will choose your uniform size and submit a photograph for your accreditation shown) is not operational at this time, but they are hoping to implement at a later date.

Curling Canada will be looking to set up an office here at a later date and volunteers who have signed up will be contacted and instructed where to come and pay their $100 fee, try on their apparel and get their picture done all at the same time.   Volunteers will be contacted when this is ready to go so no rush there.

It’s time to join the volunteer team
for 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup

Curling fans in Brandon have been waiting for more than a decade to welcome back the biggest events in the sport, and now they have a chance to be directly involved in helping make the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup a success.

Volunteer applications are now being accepted, giving you the opportunity to make your contributions in all aspects of putting on the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup.

Volunteer contributions, both behind and in front of the scenes, are indispensable, and their efforts are often as profound as the event itself.

Facilities will need volunteers in a variety of positions that start before the event and carry through to teardown. Opportunities vary from setting up and taking down equipment to facilitating interview requests for the media. Canada’s best curlers, VIPs and fans will be gathering at Westman Communications Group Place, and volunteers will be required to work behind the scenes at various checkpoints.

Hosting is looking for friendly faces to provide information regarding tickets and daily activities. Some volunteers will be tasked with transporting teams to and from their destinations around Brandon, while others will help keep a variety of lounges stocked with refreshments and food.

The special events committee will make the off-ice activities, such as autograph sessions, Up Close and Personal interviews, and the Junior Stars program, a success. They’ll also help plan and prepare the ceremonies at the Home Hardware Canada Cup and provide retail assistance for souvenirs.

After the last rock is thrown each night, attention shifts to The Patch, Curling Canada’s post-game party zone. The bands will be electrifying, the dance floor packed, and volunteers make it all possible by bartending, busing, selling tokens, and enjoying the camaraderie of The Patch.

What are the benefits of volunteering? Here’s a look at what you get:
•    Official volunteer clothing;
•    Limited-edition volunteer pin (not available to the general public)
•    Invitation to the volunteer appreciation party
•    Access to the famous Patch with entertainment
•    Access to seating in the venue when not on shift*
•    Volunteer handbook

* based on seat availability

These positions are just a taste of what volunteers will be doing to make the Home Hardware Canada Cup a success. Visit http://www.curling.ca/2016canadacup/volunteer/ and become part of the team today.
